BOSTON -- Today on the stairs outside of the State House Evan Falchuk, Chairman of Citizens for a Say and United Independent Party, announced a major partnership with Yes on 1 organization that successfully repealed automatic gas tax hikes. This new coalition will work to pass a ballot question to stop tax dollars from being spent on the Olympics.
“I am pleased that the Yes on 1 organization will be partnering with us to get the signatures and pass this critical initiative to protect our tax dollars,” said Falchuk. “We all agree that tax dollars should not be used for the Olympics.”
Rep. Geoff Diehl, Steve Aylward, Marty Lamb and many others will lead the TankTaxesforOlympics.com arm of the Falchuk coalition.
“We respect the hard working taxpayers of Massachusetts. That’s why we passed the repeal of automatic gas tax hikes last year. Protecting taxpayers doesn’t just mean stopping automatic tax hikes. It also requires prohibiting the expenditure of tax money on non-essentials,” said Rep. Diehl who was Co-Chairman of Yes on 1.
“We have a strong grassroots organization that can help deliver the signatures and momentum to take Boston 2024 who we all know are addicted to our tax dollars,” said Aylward who was Co-Chairman ofYes on 1.
“Two years ago we took on the powerful Beacon Hill structure to stop taxation without representation. Now we are once again standing up for the taxpayers. Our ballot initiative will ensure that Boston 2024 will keep their word that will not use tax funds. As Ronald Reagan said trust but verify. This ballot question is our way to verify,” said Lamb who was the Chairman of Tank Automatic Gas Tax Hikes PAC and a leader on the original signature drive.
Yes on 1 supporters who will be part of this new coalition include Rep. Geoff Diehl, Steve Aylward, Marty Lamb, Rep. Shaunna O’Connell, Rep. Jim Lyons, Desiree Awiszio (Campaign Manager for Yes on 1), Rep. David DeCoste, Agatha Bodwell, Jeff Bailey, Lou Valanzola, Suzie Scholl, Tom Keyes, Stephen Coulter, Selectwoman Caroline Colarusso, Tony Conte, Marylou Daxland of MARA, Bob Whynott, Melissa Juarez, Chris Pinto, Republican National Committee woman Chanel Prunier, Les Gosule who passed Melissa’s law in 2012, State Representative Leah Cole, Rick Gleason of the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association, and John O’Mara of the Northborough Tea Party,
“Our chances of success have greatly increased with this new partnership,” said Falchuk. “We are a unique coalition that is adamant that no taxpayer money be used for the Olympics, and which knows that relying on promises and good intentions isn’t enough.”
